Why am I getting chin hair?

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive as an esthetician is, "Why am I getting chin hair?" The answer is simple: as we age, our hormones change and can cause hair to grow in new places.

Although it may seem embarrassing, chin hair growth is actually quite common among women. Various factors can contribute to this, such as hormonal imbalances, genetics, and medical conditions (e.g. PCOS). However, the most common cause is simply aging.

Aging usually causes hormonal changes in women, including a decrease in estrogen levels and an increase in testosterone levels. This hormonal shift can lead to the growth of facial hair, including chin hair. Genetics can also play a role in the development of chin hair.

So be cool! It’s not uncommon and and there are various methods for removing or managing it, such as tweezing, waxing, threading, laser hair removal, or using hair removal creams. It is recommended to consult a healthcare provider if chin hair growth is sudden or excessive, as it may be a sign of an underlying medical condition.

Is your tweezing causing you dark marks or inflamed follicles

Dark Marks & Inflamed hair follicles are a common side effect of freezing and other hair removal techniques. This is because tweezing can cause irritation and damage to the hair follicles, leading to redness, swelling, and even pimple-like bumps. To prevent this, it is important to use a clean pair of tweezers and avoid over-tweezing the same area. Applying a warm compress and using a gentle exfoliant can also help soothe and prevent inflammation.
